University Introduction

 

The University of Wollongong (UOW) is an Australian public research university located in the coastal city of Wollongong, New South Wales, about 80 kilometres south of Sydney. As of 2023, the institution had over 33,000 students (including over 12,300 international students), a 176,000-strong alumni base, and over 2,400 staff members, including 16 Distinguished Professors.

 

In 1951, a section of the New South Wales University of Technology (later renamed the University of New South Wales) was founded in Wollongong to deliver diploma courses. The University of New South Wales established the Wollongong University College in 1961, and it was officially launched in 1962. The University of Wollongong was founded in 1975 as an independent university. Since its founding, the institution has awarded over 120,000 degrees, diplomas, and certifications. Its students, who were primarily from the local Illawarra region, now come from over 150 nations, with international students accounting for more than 37% of the total.

 

The institution of Wollongong is a young and promising comprehensive institution, ranked in the top 2% of the globe, the top 50 in Asia-Pacific, and the top 50 among young universities worldwide. Its IT and computer science departments are ranked among the best in Australia, and the University of Wollongong is well-known for its engineering in terms of science and engineering. According to the "Good Universities Guide," the beginning wage for engineering graduates at the University of Wollongong is AUD 67,000 per year, and the graduate employment rate has been named No. 1 in Australia for 14 straight years!
